A cesarean section or c-section is a surgical method to deliver a baby by making an incision in the woman’s abdomen and uterus. In some situations, scheduling of c-sections is done in advance, while in others, it is done due to unexpected complications.

Reasons for Opting Cesarean

The doctor may suggest for C-section for the following reasons:

Delayed labor is the predominant reason for a C-section delivery

The cervix opening seems to be small, despite heavy contractions for many hours

The child’s head is too big to come out of the birth canal

Less oxygen supply to the baby

Fluctuations in the baby’s heartbea

Improper positioning of the baby

If there are multiple fetus in the womb

If the baby is ready for birth before the due date

Problematic placenta, that is, if the placenta blocks the cervix opening

If the umbilical cord had encountered a problem, that is, if the loop of the umbilical cord comes out first before the baby or if it gets compressed by the uterus while contractions occur.

If the mother is encountered health issues such as high blood pressure, heart problems, or infection including HIV or genital herpes with a high risk to affect the baby during normal delivery.

If the birth canal is blocked by large fibroid formation

Pelvic fracture or hydrocephalus of the baby, a condition involving a very large-sized head

If the mother’s previous delivery was cesarean. However, in some cases, normal delivery is possible after a previous C-section.

If the mother’s uterus was subjected to any surgery before pregnancy

If the mother got conceived after rigorous treatment for infertility
